Day 10 – Back to work

June 30, 2010

June 29, 2010 – Work resumed today. The builder stopped by in the morning to provide an update on the work to be performed both inside and outside the house.

For the basement deconstruction, it was a relief to learn that we could just focus on the middle section of the wall. This means from just above the wall plugs to just below the wall sconces. Having to remove wiring and plugs would have been a bit more work. We still have to remove studs, but removing just a section of studs (since it’s not a load bearing wall) and drywall is better than removing all of either of them. We also have a week or so to get that work done.

For the outside work, the crew will pick up the pace and work on an accelerated schedule. This wasn’t really our request, but they did ask, and as long as it wasn’t costing more, we said fine. It should work well, and we appreciate the offer. I wonder when the crew rests?  Today, they dug down to the bottom of our basement wall, where the foundation would be, if there was one.

I’m not sure what the next few days hold, but I imagine it’s more clearing out of dirt and getting framing ready for pouring of concrete. This additional work of pouring the extra deep foundation was only to add an additional five days of work time, so with the accelerated schedule, I would guess we should be to the framing of the walls by early next week after the concrete has been poured and cured.

But for now, it’s still a dirt pit. Just a deeper dirt pit!
