Day 67 – The roof comes off

August 25, 2010

View of new roof

August 25, 2010 – Well, it’s not so much the roof as it is the dormer, but that’s a roof too, so I guess it’s the same thing. But anyways, it’s weird to walk upstairs and have a ceiling that vaults many, many feet above your head. I had to do a double take. When it’s all said and done, there will be a ceiling the same height as what we have currently, but with that space above it.

Today we were talking about how we would run HVAC (or more accurately just plain “H” in our house, as we have no AC and V is accomplished easily with all the drafts we have). Do we hire it out? It’s just running the stainless duct work, right? How could we mess that up? Wait, don’t think about that too hard. The biggest issue is HOW to get it over to the new addition, as the furnace is in our basement, and anything – plumbing, electricity and the “H” – will need to cross through and leave the basement somehow. We are in the process of patching up the wall hole left over from the bracing in our basement, so I don’t relish the thought of having to take down (and then patch) more drywall in a completed living space. Oh well. What must be done, must be done.
