Day 329 – The porch is back!

May 17, 2011

May 17, 2011 – When our porch collapsed back in June of last year, there was a little piece of us that collapsed along with it. We vowed that one day we would rebuild. We were fortunate enough to have the means to do so and the cooperation of our builder, so now it is a reality. And frankly, it’s even better than it was before with SOLID construction, a underlay of pressure treated wood under the tongue-and-groove  fir and a slightly expanded size (about two feet winder than previous).

Night picture of the porch - freshly done!

There is quite a bit of finishing we need to do, so it may not look amazing to you now, but the bones are there, including a nice fir floor. When it’s done, it will match the style of our front porch (and subsequently the style of the porch section that fell). Hopefully by that point we’ll have the landscaping set for a really nice patio area – complete with a chimenea/fire pit, which seems to be a backyard trademark with the extended family. Right now, the dog really seems to enjoy it.

With this up, now we can begin the siding on the back of the house. We are still waiting on exterior doors to arrive in mid June, so likely we’ll side everywhere but the under porch area where the door will go.
